on the care and feeding of boys

I'm Rachel Balducci. Welcome to my world! I am married to Paul and we are the parents of five wild and crazy boys -- and one daughter who is made of sugar and spice. Here you'll find my musings on life in a male-dominated household, with the occasional swoon about having a girl.
I'm a writer and a newspaper columnist and my first book, How Do You Tuck In A Superhero and other delightful mysteries of raising boys, was published last year.
If you're passionate about weapons, World Cup soccer, super powers and the NBA, you've come to the right place.

What a great idea! I am always amazed by what entertains kids. Especially boys.
I always am fascinated at the obsessions of boys, and to what lengths they will go to inform and exercise their passion. With security and space, genius emerges.
It’s a real sport.
Yes, speed stacks. I saw these the first time on Friday. I said to the man who was demonstrating it, “That looks like it started out as a drinking game.” (I was recalling my college days…) He replied, “No, it started out as a competition at a church youth group.” Whoops. (He was Southern Baptist.) Whatever.
But a bag of plastic cups from the grocery store is a lot cheaper than the “speed stacks.”
