on the care and feeding of boys
I'm Rachel Balducci. Welcome to my world! I am married to Paul and we are the parents of five wild and crazy boys -- and one daughter who is made of sugar and spice. Here you'll find my musings on life in a male-dominated household, with the occasional swoon about having a girl.
I'm a writer and a newspaper columnist and my first book, How Do You Tuck In A Superhero and other delightful mysteries of raising boys, was published last year.
If you're passionate about weapons, World Cup soccer, super powers and the NBA, you've come to the right place.

These were always my favorite segments on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood when I was little! Why are they so satisfying?!
i still remember coming upstairs when i was 7 years old and saying, mom, i want to be a crayon maker when i grow up!
MMMM! Can’t you just SMELL that?! New crayons are so delicious.
TracyW who also thinks that the smell of new books is wonderful
I remember watching this on Mr. Rogers! Wow… what a flashback…
Oh MY GOSH! I TOTALLY remember this!
Wow, do I feel old.
Thanks for the memories.
That is SOOO cool! And I agree about the smell too-they should make a candle with that scent-with a hint of CC cokkkies and milk, that tapey-band-aid smell, mimeo and fresh-cut grass–call it childhood.
Two of my children (who shall remain nameless) thought crayons were a food group. We discovered one had demolished a couple when changing diapers over the next couple of days. About 2 weeks later, while in church, this child spotted a crayon of the same color sitting on the pew. Don and I both saw the child’s eyes light up – yeah! Food! We hid the crayon . . . quickly.
Brings back good memories for me too.
I’m going to let Aiden watch this as his first “news” paper and it was about making crayons. I think the pictures actually came from this video. That or they haven’t changed the way they make crayons in 20 years.
Yep, I remembered that one… strange, though, as if by magic, the “used” crayon is new again at the end of the movie.
Thanks for the flashback! I haven’t seen that segment in quite a few years. I always felt my IQ was higher due to watching how things were made on Sesame Street and Mr. Rodgers. I still remember the one about how they make French horns…
Oh gosh i loved this and the French horn one like the poster above…so funny!! I was always so amazed that they didn’t break when he dumped them out like that!!
