on the care and feeding of boys
I'm Rachel Balducci. Welcome to my world! I am married to Paul and we are the parents of five wild and crazy boys -- and one daughter who is made of sugar and spice. Here you'll find my musings on life in a male-dominated household, with the occasional swoon about having a girl.

Thinking of my near daily shopping trips with my sweeties… my eyes are full of tears.
My babies are 17 and 20 now. . .how I miss those days.
Love Henry "reading" in the cart! Precious! Thanks for sharing.
He should've sat on the pillows!
P.S. Think I saw your purse at the TJ's in Houston, Texas yesterday! I smiled when I saw it.
lol that is a cute pic. Well, I know I for one will not remember shopping as a fond time with my kids when they get big. Its very stressful to take any of my bunch shopping. My 2 year old will not sit in the cart at all.
But i do know what you mean. i often think of other small things and think will they remember this one day?
Oh the lobster tank! We can't make it out of the store without stopping by there for atleast 5 minutes!
Oh that picture reminds me of my most traumatizing memory of childhood. When I watched a lobster get pulled out of the tank put into steam to be cooked alive. Pulled out not quite dead, then have his head whacked with a hammer. He probably will remember it.
Will you remember the red shoes? They are awesome. I still have on my closet shelf a pair of my toddler's pink sandals with jingle bells attached by pipe cleaners. I will never let go of those pink sandals or forget tracking her in the house by the tinkling. She's 24 now.
I wish I had taken my kids with me more on errands rather than leaving them home with daddy. And vice versa. Your boys are learning so much simply by watching your daily problem solving.
Can't wait to take my grandkids, yet to be born, with me on errands!
Bob used to ask to go see the "monsters" before we left the store. So cute.
Don't they just melt your heart sometimes!
You had me sobbing at the picture of him looking at the lobster tank. Now I have to take that same picture of my little guy. Thanks for pointing out how precious the moments I totally take for granted are.
My most favorite blog ever!
ha! We were JUST at the lobster tank today!
Henry is so sweet.
When I was pregnant with Deanna, Don started doing the grocery shopping and still does it most weeks. When the kids were little, they'd come home so pumped from the store. Don would give them Six Flags-style rides in the buggies up and down the aisles, they always got cookies and lollipops from the Produce Manager, and often got to "pet" the lobsters. What fun! Kroger was LIKE an amusement park to them.
Rach, I got such a kick out of your comment about Charlie's deal with Dane regarding next year's Pinewood Derby. Thanks for the positive feedback about Dane's canoe car. He did almost the entire thing alone, which amazed me. I have such mixed emotions about the Derby, but this was a good year for us.
Love you,
Patti
I'm LOVIN' those red shoes
What is it with kids and lobster tanks?
Awwww…I miss that so badly! I don't know if he'll remember it, but you really will. I have twins that will be 10 years old this year (YIKES! Where did the time go!) and I used to like to take one shopping with me, just to spend some alone time with each of them and I used to get them set up in the cart just like that. And we used to always have to end our shopping trip by swinging by for a visit to the "fishies". Love it! And like everyone else, LOVE the red shoes.
The kids are in college now but we still stop by the lobster tank whenever we shop. Who knew lobsters could make you sad?!
Rachel, when I saw this photo of Henry, I had to smile. My two year old who was born just a week or two before Henry is (typically) a good little guy in the grocery store…and he loves a good lobster tank! Thanks for sharing….:)
Those days pass too quickly! I remember (with great fondness) having to stop at the lobster tank every grocery store visit! Thanks for the laugh!
