Speaking Their Language

One of the boys was getting all agitated in the front room, highly annoyed because the television wasn’t cooperating. He was trying to turn on a movie we picked up at the library and he just couldn’t! make it!! work!!!!!

I walked into the room, grabbed a plastic baseball bat and started whacking a nearby beanbag.

“Let’s all just calm down,” I said, flailing my arms and acting just crazy enough that the boys were eyeing me with surprise and intrigue.

I looked up and everyone started to laugh.

“What if that’s how I really acted when I was mad,” I chuckled.

“Then you,” answered Elliott, “would be the best mom ever.”

I LOVE it!!! Only in a house full of boys! I have four of my own, I totally get it. Sometimes you have to speak their language to get their attention.

Hilarious! Oddly enough, with my one girl, I can totally relate. Oh, the drama!

So glad to hear about testoster-rage happening in other homes. Our 15yo has been given a boxing stand for the purpose of burning off excess hormone anger… not that it's helping so much! Once when boy #1 and boy #2 were in a fisticuffs situation (which, they were trying to do completely silently since they were supposed to be doing schoolwork), I walked in on them and just joined in. Shocked them speechless. Sigh. Boys.
