At one of her showers, Isabel got a plush toy purse as a gift and tonight one of the boys pulled it out with some intrigue. Inside the tiny pink bag were plush accoutrements — a little plush lipstick, a set of plush keys, some kind of pink plush cellphone with texting capabilities.
Elliott made a comment about not using too much mascara (when someone was eyeing the lipstick) and I wondered if he even knew what it was.
“That’s not mascara,” I said.
“I know,” he said, “mascara is that stuff you rub on your eyes.”
I was curious what else he thought about ladies and make-up and asked if he even noticed the difference. He totally did (and kindly noted that my mascara must have come off earlier in the day).
“I think ladies look good with make-up,” he said, “as long as they don’t actor themselves.”

So funny. I almost never get the gumption to put on makeup. The other day I was attending an 85th birthday party for my great-aunt (A Sister of Charity for the past 66 years, but I digress), and was expecting to see a lot of distant cousins, etc. Since I have four young children, and I know a lot of them don't see things as I do in the way of God's plan for families, I was determined to look good, have my children look good, have everything under control, and be a great witness to my Faith and my Faith in God's plan for my family. Lofty goals, great plans, you can imagine how it all turned out.
But, I digress, when I emerged from my room wearing not only make- up but some accessories too, my darling 4 year old asked, "is that makeup?" I told him yes, and asked how he knew. He replied, "I knew it because you looked like a clown." So much for self confidence. At least the cake wa yummy.
HAHAHAHA! That is priceless!
I am a new mommy to a little boy and I can't wait to hear and see what kinds of things he comes up with!
Clearly I wear make up (too?) often as the other day, while on his way to bed, our Little Man was overheard telling his Daddy the following . . .
"Dad? Let's just stop at the bathroom on the way to my room so I can put my hairbrush away in my make-up drawer."
Oy!

Kids are so funny!
This reminded me of a conversation between a couple of my kids this morning. When her brother asked what kind of stuff she does for school – my 3 year old daughter replied, "Oh – coloring, drawing, painting, lipsticking…."
